10 Signs You Need To Start A Blog, Like, Yesterday

If you’re like me, you probably are going back and forth on starting a blog.

“Should I? Will it be expensive? What if it really sucks? Ugh, it’s a lot of work. But I really wanna do it..”

Soo, let me help you. Here are 10 signs you’re ready to start blogging.

1. You think about it all the time

Thinking about a blog is like thinking about a middle school crush. It pops up at the worst moments, and it’s never fully out of your head.

For months, I thought, “Ugh, I want to start a blog.” But then these little things like getting engaged, graduating from college, moving to Sarasota and starting a new job all happened. Life got in the way and as usual, blogging went far down on my list of priorities.

But I couldn’t. stop. thinking. about. it.

2. Inspirational quotes actually inspire you

I’m sorry, but inspirational quotes get me pumped. I love them. I would hang them in every corner of my apartment if I could. I love to take awesome quotes and write them in my phone.

Oh, and maybe add a watercolor background and gold foil writing? I die.

Now, inspirational quotes about writing basically make me pass out. I swear, I get this dreamy, misty-eyed look as I gaze just above my computer screen.

3. You dream of editorial calendars

Things like content calendars, WordPress themes, and Google Analytics make my heart flutter like a Victorian woman in a Jane Austen novel. It’s really that simple. Find what you love and do it.

4. You’re constantly trying to improve your writing

Writing is like practicing yoga; you’re never doing yoga, you’re just practicing it. Yoga theory says this is because you can never be perfect at one pose or sequence; you can only keep progressing and pushing the p(r)ose <—hehe

I think writing is the same way. You can never be perfect at it, and there’s no such thing as the “perfect piece.” Everything can be edited, everything can be pushed just a little further.

5. You narrate your life

One of my quirks is that I have a constant narration on a loop in my head. Seriously, does anyone else narrate their entire life? Maybe this isn’t a quirk, but an actual problem…

Either way, I have a running monologue in my head at all times.

6. You’re a little bit afraid

I was am afraid of starting a blog. My writing is my 100% real thoughts down on paper (or in the Cloud, same thing). It’s personal, it’s frightening, and for an introverted person like me, very revealing.

It’s weird. Tiny bathing suit? No problem. Bodycon dresses? Don’t care. Cleavage? Let me show you how I contour my boobs. But actually publishing my thoughts?

It’s not that I hide things from people. Scratch that, I totally do. But I’m naturally a private person. I’ve gotten less shy throughout the years, and now I wouldn’t even describe myself as shy. Quiet, maybe. I’m not afraid to speak out, I just don’t feel the need to talk if I don’t have some relevant to say.

Lovely 90’s song, “2 AM (Breathe),” says:

“And I feel like I’m naked in front of a crowd

‘cuz these words are my diary screaming out loud.”

7. You’re excited to start from the bottom

Started from the bottom, now I’m still here.

I am so fine with admitting I am at the bottom. Creating and building a blog should never be taken lightly. Everything I do, I do it with my whole heart. One reason I put off starting a blog for the longest time was that it wasn’t a fully developed idea. I couldn’t pick a topic, my thoughts were all over the place, and I could never sit down onto write.

^^All big problems when you’re planning to attract readers. So I put it on hold. But, I digress. With any blog, you start at the bottom. And the bottom of the blogging world looks like a dark place with a long climb until that light appears. But if you’re really ready to start, suit up for the long term.

8. Slight awe of other bloggers

When I first started really researching blogs, I was in awe of successful blogs. Ramsay quickly became one of my favorites. I think the first day I spent 5 hours on his blog (seriously, thank you, Ramsay), clicking from post to post.

I think this slight hero-worship of successful bloggers is important. Especially the welcoming, helpful ones like Ramsay. His posts made me feel like he wanted to help me personally. If he could sell a blog for $20,000 in 8 months, I sure could get a few hundred readers, right? Women like PR Blonde and PR Girl Problems made me feel like I could contribute to the conversation, too. I was excited to connect with them and just talk about our favorite subject, PR.

9. You’re ready to be honest

So many times I censor myself.

Part of working in PR is checking everything before it comes out of your mouth. In a blog, the first thing that comes to your head should be written down on paper. Instead of second guessing every word, spending minutes crafting a perfect sentence, just write it down exactly like you thought it.

I feel like I understand what stream of consciousness writing really means now. It means my fingers can’t keep up with my thoughts. Faulkner really must’ve had a rough time writing by hand.

10. You. Can’t. Stop. Writing.

The first day I got serious about a blog (June 2 to be exact), I couldn’t stop writing. I reluctantly went to lunch, crafting sentences in my head, and as usual, narrating my life. I wrote 3 full length blogs in a few hours.

The words flowed from my head like they never had before. I was shocked. I still am. So much content poured from me, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get it all down before it left.

Now, I’ve never done illegal drugs before, but I feel like it’s the same feeling? Thoughts? No?

SO, do you think you’ll be starting a blog anytime soon? If yes, I’d love to check it out

xx
